Happiness is something everyone strives for, yet it often seems just out of reach. Many people believe that achieving wealth, success, or perfect relationships will bring joy. However, true happiness often comes from within and can be nurtured through specific practices and mindsets. In this post, we will explore key ingredients that can help you cultivate true happiness with practical insights and examples.


Understanding Happiness


Happiness isn't just a destination; it's a personal journey. It's a state of mind shaped by our thoughts, actions, and environments. To cultivate happiness, first reflect on what it means to you.


For example, think about what brings you joy. Is it the laughter shared with friends, the satisfaction of a good book, or the calm found in nature? By identifying what makes you happy, you can prioritise these activities in your life, leading to a greater sense of fulfilment. We must understand that life's challenges, adversities can diminish our light for happiness or cause trauma or distress. Some of these challenges help shape us, give us meaning, or help shape our belief systems. Even in sad moments or challenges, there are moments that can be grasped of a happy moment. Let me explain about 2 types:



Eudaimonic and Hedonic are 2 different kinds of happiness and wellbeing and derive from ancient Greek Philosophy.


Eudaimonic wellbeing is all about meaning, purpose, and self realisation, not just about feeling good but being good and doing good. Such examples include helping others, living authentically and ethically or working towards long term goals that matter. In contrast Hedonic is focused on pleasure, comfort and satisfaction, which give positive emotions and the absence of pain or distress. For example enjoying a delicious meal, relaxing on holiday or experiencing some form of fun or joy.


As you may have noticed, one is short term and the other long term and grounded. Psychologists argue that true wellbeing includes having both aspects and concludes that a person is flourishing once both are active in an individual.


Gratitude: The Foundation of Happiness


Gratitude is one of the most impactful ingredients for happiness. It shifts your mindset from focusing on what you lack to appreciating what you have. Research shows that practicing gratitude can increase happiness levels by about 25%.


Consider keeping a gratitude journal. Each day, write down three things you are thankful for. This simple action can improve your perspective and help you recognize the small joys in life, such as a warm cup of coffee or a compliment from a colleague.


Connection: Building Meaningful Relationships


Humans are naturally social, and cultivating meaningful relationships is vital for happiness. Studies have shown that strong social connections can increase happiness by as much as 50%.
